Privacy
The short version
- No accounts, no analytics, no tracking cookies, no ads.
- Your settings, and any API key you add to the chat, stay in your browser. Chat conversations aren't saved anywhere.
- Questions you ask the chat go to an AI provider so it can answer them: Mistral for the free trial, or the provider you picked with your own key.
- To keep the free trial fair, the site counts questions per visitor per day using a scrambled form of your IP address. The counts are deleted after about a week.
Who runs the site
Ship Autonomy is a personal, non-commercial project run by Melih Akdağ in Norway. For questions about your data, corrections or deletion requests, email hello@shipautonomy.com.
What stays in your browser
- Light or dark theme, list or card view, and whether the chat pane is open and how wide.
- Chat settings: the provider and model you chose and, if you add one, your API key. The key is sent with each question to this site's server, which passes it to that provider for that one request. It isn't stored or logged on the server.
Clearing this site's data in your browser removes all of it.
What the server handles
- Free-trial counter. A daily count of chat questions per visitor, kept under a keyed hash of your IP address that can't be turned back into the address. Counts older than seven days are deleted. This stops one visitor from using up everyone's free questions (legitimate interest).
- Chat questions. Your question, the earlier turns of the conversation and the page you're on are sent to the AI provider to produce the answer. The site doesn't keep them.
- Hosting logs. Like any website, the hosting service records requests, including IP addresses, for a short time to run and secure the service.
- Email. If you write to hello@shipautonomy.com, the message is kept as long as needed to reply.
Services the site uses
- Vercel hosts the site (request logs).
- Supabase holds the database, including the free-trial counter.
- Cloudflare runs the domain and forwards email sent to hello@shipautonomy.com.
- Mistral answers free-trial questions. With your own key, the provider you picked (Mistral, OpenAI, Anthropic or Google) answers instead, under its own terms.
- OpenStreetMap serves the map tiles on the Geo page, so your browser contacts it when you open that page.
Some of these are based outside the EEA; data is passed only as each needs to do its job, and is never sold or shared for advertising.
Your rights
You can ask what data about you the site holds, and ask for it to be corrected or deleted, by emailing hello@shipautonomy.com. Since the site keeps so little, there is usually nothing tied to you beyond the scrambled counter. You can also contact your local data protection authority.
